THING #15 LIBRARY 2.0

ga-zillions of people use these puplic websites to socialize everyday or almost every minute of their life. IT is both helpful and hurtful. I see Library2.0 being helpful as a way of patrons and library staff logging into this site and writing reviews of the novel they just read. Having multiple opinions is extremely helpful. We have IM upat all times so that persons from other branches can"Compare & borrow" notes from each other. The network of users has multiplied 10fold. I also like how some colleges are using facebook in order for incoming freshman to "get to know" eachother before arriving on campus. Those using these websites have buddies once they arrive at this foreign place. This is a major plus in mymind. I am disturbed how people can report nasty things anomynously through the string on facebook. Peoples lives are crushed and damaged at a young age.

Thing #6 MashUps

Mashups combine two jpegs or text and jpeg.

THING #23 THE END!!@#$%$#@

Well as the song goes, "This is the end my friend." It has been a fun journey. You were even able to "Light my Fire" with learning youtube, mashups, and image generator. I'm still waiting to take my MP3 player out of my box. Would've been nice if I would've actually learned to use it through all 23 things. Maybe that's the next 23 things or do I have to read the directions? Seriously, thanks much cause I am inspired and determined to download a book soon.

THING #22 NETLIBRARY

Well, I was able to log into yet another website and set up another account. Thank goodness for paper to keep all my usernames and passwords straight. OVERDRIVE was down so I signed into netlibrary. After 5 minutes of searching titles with no luck, I found the collections key and paged through page after page of cliff notes. This is a great website for teachers, but not for me. Where's a website to download audiobooks that as a librarian I would read and recommend to our patrons?

Thing #20 YOUTUBE

WHAT MOMS SAY!!

THING #21 PODCASTS

I like this thing!! I was able to explore podcast.net and itunes. Since we don't have apples, there was no free downloads. My kids go there all the time and really love receiving itunes gift cards. Also, when I explored podcast.net I was able to inquire about travel sites such as the Biltmore Estate and its beauty during the holidays. The audio tour was helpful, especially in the future when deciding upon vacation destinations. Finally, I really loved the soothing music from podcast.net.

THING #20 YOUTUBE

This is a cool, really cool site for seeing the brighter side of life, having a tummy roll type laugh, or just remembering when . . . . . Joann shared a YOUTUBE about "What MOMs say" just prior to studying youtube. We all got a chuckle from it. I was a little bummed that I could not use the search engine to locate the exact video.
I was disturbed, however, about what others post on this site. Some are very silly, pornographic (in my opinion), or gross!
The creator of YOUTUBE definitely earns an A + in my mind, and I will frequent this site when told about things that appeal to me; however some people have spoiled a good thing with their choice of posting (my opinion, again).

Thing #12 Rollyo

Today I explored the world of Rollyo. To me rollyo seems to be similar to tags and wikis. I'm not even clear about the distinction between the three except that they allow the user to categorize things for easy use and easy access. It seems appropriate for users who acess many websites and want to group or categorize their favorite websites. Also a user can group create own search tool for websites that are known and trusted. This is especially great when working with kids where they may need primary sources to research or just trusted websites to explore. As for me, I am content as such and don't think I would use this personally. At work, our toolbar has everything bookmarked that we need to work with and use on a daily basis. Thank you techie people for making my life more efficient!!

Thing #11 Library Thing

Today I made numerous attempts to log into librarything. IT was extremely frustrating!! I carefully selected my usual username and password, the librarything kept returning to the login process menu. After MANY attempts, a message appeared saying username already in use. I selected TWO more usernames and passwords only to receive the same message and then a nother message saying WRONG password and username. Librarything looks really nice for avid readers and librarians to use and comment upon titles but , it is not easy to sign up.

Thing #8 & #9 RSS Feeds

Previously, I had set up my blogline account and located RSS feeds that are favorable to me. Today I refreshed my memory and tried adding additional feeds to the blogline. I was able to accomplish this; however when I attached the blogline to my blog, I don't see that little RSS feed symbol. Am I doing something wrong? I remember last time going into others blogs and seeing their RSS symbol and connecting them to me or vice versa.

I believe this RSS feed is a really cool way to connect to the outside world in micro steps. As I get more familiar with it (and hopefully use it) maybe I'll utilize this feature in my daily tech world.

Thing #19

Today I browsed the web 2.0 again (I believe) and still am not crazy about the web video casts that I saw. A friend forwarded a video about "what moms say" a few weeks ago from youtube. I could not find it. Also, I'm not interested in seeing multiply episodes of "What Sammy eats?" about a cat eating various things. "Who cares," is my response and I really don't have time to browse other people's interests, especially those off kilter. It was nice to listen to a hit song, but this solely would not sell me to check out the web2.0.

Thing #19 ZOHO writer

Today I experimented with ZOHO Writer and I admit to getting a little frustrated because the cursor kept returning to the upper left hand corner and the settings reverted back to the original settings. I also attempted to import a photo from google images but it kept creating a new document each time I hit the import button.

Thing #16 & #17 WIKIS

I must say that the creators of these new techie terms -- wikis, del.icio.us, merlin rolly, etc -- probably began their career creating names of the various street names in Columbia, MD or who knows, they may have grew up on one of those strange streets and was inspired.
This week's term gets more respect than del.icio.us!! After reviewing various websites to become more familiar with wikis, I believe it would be useful for HCL intranet, school research responses, collaborative projects, or creating documents. At HCL, creating a wiki for book reviews from staff and the community would be awesome! It would help a patron conclude if the book is right for them. Of course, I guess we would be copying from Amazon. Is that ok? The utube presentation had great points, too -- less email generated, one central site.
I do have a hang up with this concept just like del.icio.us and others out there that it is free speech and thus will have opinions, slander, lack credibility, and gossip. I truly don't have time to waste my time surf or snurfing around the world wide web to read outlandish things. I much prefer to have a face-to-face conversation with my friends and family. I feel that if the writer needs to be anonymous than it doesn't need to be published. (Of course that is my opinion).

I was teambuilding with my fellow cenchtech goddesses. In case you don't understand I edit a SIwiki post?#$%@%$

Things #13, #14, & #15 (rev1)

Deli.cio.us : When someone mentions that word typically the picture at left automatically comes to mind, not the numerous web sites that one can access. I can see that for some users this feature streamlines their time by having the website available on all computers that the user works on. For me bookmarking will be sufficient to use because for now, all the work computers have different sites I need and I only have one computer at home. Do you think if I begin to think of del.icio.us in terms of multiply website availability from numerous computers, do you think I'll lose my appetite to eat those delicious sweets?

Thing #10 online image Generator

This BOOOO . . . tiful witch is flying our way very soon. She was moving a minute ago but was frightened to DEATH and now just sits on her spiffy broom and stares at the visitors who happen to visit my blog. BOO!!!

Thing #7

Thing #7 was rather frustrating at first because I'm used to just copying the images from the original source to the document, etc. This time Barb helped me with uploading the image. I really like how you can center, left/right justify the image around the text. Is there a similar format in word document to do this as well? Concerning photos and technology, it is fabulous how you can see photos of loved ones living far away and still be connected. I'm watching my great niece grow each day and seeing the action of where my nephew is currently. I would love to use my cell phone and upload those pictures I've taken that are somewhere in my camera and share them with others.

Thing #3

My favorite Habit was 1/2 because it was BEFORE #1:
Attitude is Everything!!
Although I did not at first succeed, I was not gloomy. Then my pal next door, Where's my cow?, came to my rescue. Thanks a million :-)
